REIDsteel Managing Director Simon Boyd joined ‘Team Dorset Chamber’ to sleep outside in sub-zero temperatures in aid of the homeless.

Simon, who is a member of the chamber board, and his fellow fundraisers bedded down overnight in shelters made of cardboard boxes as temperatures plunged to minus two degrees.

They were among 160 people from 40 organisations taking part in the YMCA Bournemouth organised event, which was hosted by Bournemouth Sports Club at Chapel Gate.

The aim was to raise awareness of homelessness in the area and provide funds through sponsorship for YMCA projects.

Simon, pictured far left, and his fellow team mates raised a fantastic £5,000 between them – and donations can still be made through Simon’s page or on the Dorset Chamber page until December 15, 2019.

YMCA Bournemouth launched its first Big Sleep Easy event for businesses in November 2018, which saw 98 individuals from 23 local organisations raise £25K  for homeless projects.

With almost double this number taking part this year, the total raised […]

We’re aiming to inspire engineers of the future at a special event on Thursday November 22.

We’ll be among the businesses exhibiting at the Careers in Engineering event at Curtiss-Wright on the Aviation Park West at Bournemouth International Airport.

It is being held for students in Years 9 to 13, and their parents, to give an insight into the future opportunities on offer.

There will be the chance to meet and speak with existing apprentices, as well as local employers such as ourselves.

The Grange Sixth Form is leading the initiative with support from Curtiss-Wright and Christchurch and East Dorset Councils.

The event is being held from 6pm to 8.30pm and anyone interested is asked to contact the school via its website here.

As a major local employer with a workforce of more than 140 people, we have been recruiting talented young people locally and from further afield for many years.

We regularly attend university and school events to tell young people about the benefits of a career in engineering.

Earlier this year we attended the Careers […]

REIDsteel plays key role in $32.9m civic centre construction

2018-01-25T15:09:12+00:00January 25th, 2018|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

A multi-million dollar civic centre constructed from prefabricated steel sections manufactured 5,000 miles away at REIDsteel is set to open in the heart of Belize City.

REIDsteel has performed the structural design, detailing and fabrication, including the cladding and glazing for the landmark project in the Central American country.

The Belize Civic Center, costing $32.9m Belize Dollars (£12.7m), is due to be officially opened early this year.

It includes an air-conditioned arena with a seating capacity of 4,500 for sports and entertainment. The complex includes international standard basketball and volleyball courts, practice courts, offices, media boxes, changing rooms, parking and a deck area for boats to dock.

REIDsteel project engineer Pepe Oliva said: “There has been tremendous interest in Belize about the new national civic centre.

“It is possibly the largest public construction project in the country’s history. Although we have designed, made and supplied many buildings in this part of the world, it is still incredibly rewarding to deliver a project of this magnitude on time and on budget to the client’s satisfaction.”

He added: “Like most of our buildings in Central America and the Caribbean, […]

Chancellor urged to be positive in Budget

2017-11-17T18:17:20+00:00November 17th, 2017|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

Our managing director Simon Boyd has urged Chancellor Philip Hammond to take a positive approach to businesses and Brexit in his Budget next week.

The Chancellor will reveal his plans for the year ahead next Wednesday, November 22, before the House of Commons.

Simon said: “The Chancellor is drinking in the last chance saloon. This is the final full Budget before Brexit and comes as negotiations with the EU reach crunch point.

‘Spreadsheet Phil’ must get his numbers right to ensure that we have an economy fit for Brexit whatever the outcome, and that includes setting aside more funding for a ‘no deal’ scenario.

“It means greater support for businesses, including measures to boost investment and productivity, so they are ready to fully grasp the great opportunities on offer once we are out of the EU.

“One of the simplest yet most effective things the Chancellor could do at the despatch box is strike a positive tone to reflect our optimism in a post-Brexit Britain and show negotiators in Brussels that we are embracing the future with confidence with […]

And the award nominees are…

2017-10-17T13:40:26+01:00October 17th, 2017|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , |

Congratulations to all of the finalists in this year’s Dorset Business Awards – especially the three nominees for the UK Exporter of the Year title.

Poole-based firms Actisense – Active Research Limited and Aeronautical & General Instruments Limited are on the shortlist along with Trimetals Ltd of Blandford.

As headline sponsor of this newly created category for 2017, it was tough to pick the trio and all are richly deserving of their success in making the shortlist.

Our Managing Director Simon Boyd, who visited the nominees to assist in judging, said: “Well done to everyone at Actisense, Aeronautical & General Instruments and Trimetals on reaching the shortlist.

“It is recognition of the tremendous work their people are doing every day to help their firms grow through overseas trade.

“Exports are incredibly important to the UK economy. The UK’s huge trading deficits can only be addressed through the ingenuity, drive and determination of exporters who can turn this trading deficit into a surplus.

“We wish the UK Exporter of Year finalists, and all of the other categories, the best of luck and look […]
