Placement: Student Structural Engineer

Role Overview

Full time minimum 30-week placement as part of student’s degree course.

Work will include designing steel structures varying from simple buildings to large aircraft hangars; grandstands to highway bridges.

As your training progresses you will be expected to assist sales staff in the preparation of offers; the draughtspeople in the detailing of the building elements; erection staff in the safe methods of building; and the end clients with a view to encouraging them to come back to us. This is a demanding, hands on structural engineering position.

We are a well-established company and have a large export market, so the ability to use a variety of codes and design criteria is important.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Complying with all relevant Company Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Conceptual design – working in partnership with the sales team.
  • Analysis design – using linear element or finite element software.
  • Detail design – of all connections, bolts and welds.
  • Preparing design calculations for draughtspeople and building control.
  • Taking a leading role in preparing the CDM risk register for each building.

Trainee CNC Operator

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has been created to support team growth and our plans for the future.

Working in our manufacturing facility in Christchurch, you’ll begin by supporting our fabricators and ensuring they have the parts they need in their workshops. We have recently heavily invested in new machinery and you will learn how to use it to prepare steel members for fabrication.

Full training will be given in all areas, including forklift operations so that you may assist with material movements around our manufacturing facility and despatch yard, as well as with the actual CNC machines.

Sheetmetal Operative

Role Overview

We require a Sheet Metal Operative to join our busy sheet metal workshop. You will work from our technical drawings to manufacture sheet metal components such as trims and flashings for our steel structures. Experience in a similar role of working in a manufacturing facility or in a similar industry would be advantageous, but we would consider a trainee.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Complying with all relevant Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and appropriate Risk Assessments
• Using and interpreting engineering drawings
• Marking out material and templates
• Operating a guillotine and brake press (CNC operated)
• Using a radial drill
• Cutting, folding and edge rolling sheet metal
• Jig-saw cutting

Fabricator / Welder Apprentice

Role Overview

As a Fabricator/Welder Apprentice you will work in our busy manufacturing workshops, based in our main site in Christchurch. This role will involve predominately MAG welding.

You will attend college on a day release basis to complete your Fabrication and Welding Apprenticeship and will be mentored by another member of the team to help you achieve this.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Complying with all relevant Company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Fabricating, welding and associated activities for manufacturing structural steel sections.
  • Producing accurate finished work from engineering drawings.
  • Working to welding execution classes 2-4.
  • Operating work equipment safely, ensuing that safety checks are carried out.
  • Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all work tasks.
  • Keeping the workshop area clean and tidy.
  • Adhere to and work in line with the Company values.

Cladding Draughtsperson

Role Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an additional Cladding Draughtsperson to join our busy Drawing Office. The Company is well established and you will be working on projects both for our UK and overseas markets.

You will be detailing cladding for steel framed buildings, structures and associated items. This will involve the preparation of detailed cladding and decking arrangements and sheet metal fabrication drawings to enable the accurate manufacture and installation of cladding, decking, flashings, gutters and associated sheeting materials.

Reporting to the Drawing Office Director, the successful candidate will be a key member of the project team, managing technical documents and drawings for all of our projects in accordance with our internal processes and the Main Contractor’s unique processes.
