Structural steel company John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel), which was one of the first to shutdown its manufacturing and site operations following the Government’s implementation of the lockdown, has today announced a limited to return to work at its manufacturing facility in Christchurch.

The decision follows an extensive review of its steel handling and manufacturing procedures to find a way of helping those who cannot work from home back into full time work.

The company is also working on plans that will allow its site teams (including subcontractors) to return to construction sites.

Managing director Simon Boyd, above left, said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our people is our utmost priority. When the lockdown was announced, we immediately took the decision to send all our people home to stop any potential spread of the virus and to give us time to consider alternative measures.”

“As government has advised we should do, we have been working on plans to find a way to re-open the factory/works and our construction sites to allow those who cannot work from home back to work while still respecting the hygiene and social distancing guidelines.

Ambitious plans for the future of John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) have received a major boost with the green light for development of its site in Christchurch.

The company obtained planning approval from BCP Council for up to 167 homes on its four-acre site off Fairmile Road in Christchurch.

It paves the way for our relocation to a state-of-the-art new facility proposed near Bournemouth Airport.

BCP Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead for the residential scheme, which will also include parking and access.

Now we will market the site for a developer to build the homes after it relocates.

REIDsteel managing director Simon Boyd said: “This was a fantastic decision and a great start to 2020 for us.

“It will unlock the other steps which we need to follow for our relocation to the new manufacturing facility near Bournemouth Airport.

“The new site is absolutely vital for the future of our company and will allow us to significantly increase […]

John Reid & Sons (REIDsteel) Ltd has played a key part in the development of a football club’s £1m new stand.

We provided steel design, fabrication and construction expertise for the project at Boreham Wood FC’s Meadow Park ground.

We designed and supplied a fully galvanised steel frame – including cladding, terracing and handrails – for the North Stand at the stadium in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

We worked on the project through main contractor Civils Contracting Ltd of Tonbridge and with HTP Architecture LLP Chartered RIBA Architects, based in Richmond, Surrey.

National League side Boreham Wood FC play their home games at the ground, which is shared with Premier League side Arsenal FC’s Women’s and youth teams.

Sean Burchell, REIDsteel business relationship director, said: “This was our second stand at Boreham Wood FC and the latest in a long line of stadia projects.

Voters in Dorset have been urged to back Brexit at the ballot box to ensure a swift departure from the European Union.

Our managing director Simon Boyd said a strong showing for the Conservative Party was vital in the general election on December 12.

Simon has been campaigning for the past 30 years against bad EU directives and regulations that impact on British business and to retain British Standards, which are seen by many as the finest in the world.

He said: “While there are many important issues at stake in the forthcoming general election by far the most critical at this point in time is Brexit.

“The only way for a swift and successful departure from the EU is for people to support the Conservative candidate in their constituency so we can get this stage of Brexit done by the end of January.

“Then businesses, and their employees, will be able to move on with confidence while the Government begins to focus on future free trade agreements […]
