Multi-award-winning John Reid & Sons (Strucsteel) Ltd has new opportunities to become part of its talented team.

We have openings across the company – based in Christchurch, Dorset – in a range of positions.

  • Cladding Draughtsperson/Detailer
  • Glazing Draughtsperson/Detailer
  • QHSE Assistant
  • Fabricator Welder
  • Yard Operative
  • Purchasing Administrator

Please read below for more about each position.

Cladding Draughtsperson/Detailer: Responsibilities include preparing cladding layout drawings, flashing and gutter details as well as preparing lists for manufacturing, purchasing and despatch. They will work closely with our project team. This is a great opportunity for a trainee with AutoCAD experience looking to start their career.  Experience in the industry and in a similar role advantageous.

Glazing Draughtsperson/Detailer: They will produce drawings of aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling. The role will also involve preparing fabrication schedules, cutting lists and installation details. They will work closely with our project team. This is also a great opportunity for a trainee with AutoCAD experience looking to start their career. Experience in the industry and in a similar role advantageous.

QHSE Assistant: They will facilitate the investigation and close out of non-conformity reports; collate data on waste management and reports on quality, health, safety and environmental performance. The role will also include conducting internal audits and communication across the entire business to drive improvement. Strong admin skills and attention to detail are essential. Internal auditing experience and knowledge of ISO standards advantageous.

Fabricator Welder: This role involves MIG welding structural steel and fabricating in accordance with drawings.

Yard Operative: They will use forklift trucks and gantry cranes to move fabricated steel from workshops, and load trailers and containers. A forklift truck qualification is essential and the operative must be happy working outside year round.

Purchasing Administrator: To support the company’s buyer with day to day purchasing tasks, including sourcing materials, obtaining quotations, placing purchase orders and assisting with supplier management. Excellent communication and organisational skills are required along with great attention to detail. This role would suit a strong administrator keen to progress into a career in purchasing.  Experience in a purchasing environment and/or of construction or manufacturing sectors would be advantageous.
