Landmark agreement in REIDsteel redevelopment plans

British manufacturer John Reid & Sons (Strucsteel) Limited is today celebrating a major milestone in redevelopment plans for its site in Dorset.

The company – known as REIDsteel – has acquired a 2.2-acre plot immediately next to its existing headquarters in Christchurch.

Purchase of site, which was formerly occupied by Peeks Party Store and Monkey Madness soft play centre, will allow REIDsteel to move forward with plans to invest in a state-of-the-art manufacturing complex, new offices and staff facilities.

The redevelopment over a total of 6.4 acres will allow REIDsteel to considerably enhance its productivity and capabilities in the design, engineering, manufacture and supply of steel structures across the UK, Europe and the world.

It will provide a major boost for the local economy and supply chain as well as UK plc.

REIDsteel managing director Simon Boyd signed the deal with Nick Peek in Christchurch.

Simon said: “This is a major milestone in our redevelopment plans for the company.

“It is great news and represents major investment in our business, the local economy, the Christchurch community, and the county of Dorset.

NEW ERA: An artist’s impression of how REIDsteel redevelopment may look – for illustrative purposes

Global structural steel firm John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has today announced major new redevelopment plans in Dorset.

The £30m turnover company aims to build a modern, cutting-edge manufacturing facility along with new offices in Christchurch.

Including landscaping and environmental improvements, the scheme is proposed for REIDsteel’s home of more than 50 years in Reid Street and an adjacent site formerly occupied by Peeks Party Store and Monkey Madness soft play centre.

REIDsteel, which employs more than 130 people, has launched a consultation programme today to seek the views of the community and other stakeholders before submitting a planning application.

Simon Boyd, managing director of REIDsteel, said: “As a local business of many years’ standing, our heart is in Christchurch.

“Our exciting proposals represent a multi-million-pound investment in the town and the local economy while safeguarding the future of our business for many years to come.”
