“Clearly there is absolutely no time to waste in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing businesses, not least the soaring cost of energy where the government will need to intervene without delay.

“Decisive support is urgently needed from our Prime Minister and her new government for businesses, especially small and medium sized firms which are the backbone of country’s economy and are among those most seriously affected by unsustainable rises in energy costs.

“I have been lobbying at the highest level for SMEs and UK manufacturing, particularly for the steel industry, and in my role as a member of the CBI’s manufacturing council and through the Dorset Chamber.
