Judging is underway for the prestigious Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA) – and it was the turn of our entry to go in the spotlight yesterday.
It was a pleasure to welcome one of the SSDA judges to view our dual cantilever ‘super-hangar’ built at London Biggin Hill Airport for occupation by aerospace giant Bombardier.
Our thanks go to Bombardier who hosted the visit.  John Reid & Sons (Strucsteel) Ltd Pre-Construction Director Richard Hanson and Head of Technical John Harrison attended for the technical discussion and they were also accompanied by our Client team from London Biggin Hill Airport and main contractor Civils Contracting Limited in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of a One Team approach in constructing a project of this scale and complexity.
They gave a presentation and led a tour of the landmark development, which features two 160m clear span entrances and underslung cranes for servicing aircraft along with separate offices and a VIP lounge.
It was a tremendous team effort by all at REIDsteel to put the entry together.
We hope to make the 2022 Structural Steel Design Awards shortlist, that will be published later this month, and look forward to September when the results will be announced!
