John Reid & Sons (Strucsteel) Ltd has scooped top honours as a winner in the prestigious Structural Steel Design Awards for a super-hangar at London Biggin Hill Airport.

The celebrations began after the Award was announced at a glittering ceremony in London with members of our team in attendance.

An Award is the top honour, followed by a Commendation and then a Merit so we are ecstatic that the hangar claimed this prize in a field boasting some exceptional British structural engineering projects.

Our delegation on the night included a cross-section of employees representing the entire company from the workshops, offices, design office, and other departments, including John Harrison and Richard Hanson.

It was a true ‘one team’ effort by ourselves, main contractor Civils Contracting Limited, Biggin Hill Airport and BOMBARDIER.

The twin-cantilever maintenance hangar is the largest of its kind in the UK and impressed judges with its innovative design, value engineering, environmental credentials and elegant façade.

Well done to everyone involved. This success is down to efforts and dedication of every single person at REIDsteel, who together made it possible.

Congratulations to all of the Award winners as well as those receiving Commendations and Merits.

The other Award winners were:

1 Triton Square, London
Esperance Bridge in Kings Cross, London
Tower of Light in Manchester
Lords Cricket Ground Development

The awards are organised by the BCSA – British Constructional Steelwork Association with sponsorship by Trimble Tekla UK.
