REIDsteel spans Atlantic for Belize government offices

REIDsteel has designed, made and supplied structural steel, cladding and glazing for for the government of Belize for the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Belmopan, Belize, Central America

A landmark government building designed and made in Dorset has opened in Belmopan, the capital of Belize in Central America.

Structural steel firm John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) manufactured steel sections in Christchurch before shipping them 5,000 miles to Belmopan.

They were used to construct the Government of Belize’s new headquarters for its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration.

REIDsteel – which has exported to more than 140 countries to date – also provided glazing and cladding with innovative panels to give the building a modern and stylish look.

Business development manager Pepe Oliva said: “The new headquarters is a very smart building which creates an excellent first impression.

“We used perforated aluminium panelling in a variety of shapes and sizes on its façade to create a contemporary yet corporate look worthy of its status as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ new headquarters.

REIDsteel firing on all cylinders

Structural steel company John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) is back to pre-Covid productivity levels at its manufacturing facility in Dorset.

We have welcomed staff back into its workshops with social distancing, and have resumed operations on construction sites.

Now we are set to phase the return of office staff at our Christchurch headquarters, the majority of whom have been working remotely from home.

Managing director Simon Boyd said: “We have reached and are now exceeding pre-lockdown productivity levels in our manufacturing facility.

“Praise must go to all of our people who returned to work raring to go and embraced our new Covid-19 working practices.

“Our construction operations have also successfully resumed and we intend to introduce a phased return for our office staff.

“The commitment of our people has helped to place the company in a very strong position so it is able to play a full part in supporting the country’s economic recovery.”

Double promotion from within at REIDsteel

John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has promoted two rising stars to managerial positions at its headquarters in Christchurch, Dorset.

The 130-strong structural steel firm has appointed Megan Law as Head of Human Resources and Jo White as Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Manager in a double promotion.

Managing Director Simon Boyd said: “At REIDsteel we are strong believers in recognising excellence and promoting talented people from within.

“Megan and Jo are rising stars and have both played key roles to ensure the smooth and safe running of the company.

“My congratulations to them both on their richly deserved promotions and I am sure that they will continue to make outstanding contributions as we look forward to the future with confidence despite the coronavirus pandemic.”

Jo has worked at REIDsteel since June 2016 and was promoted from QHSE co-ordinator.

Megan, who started at the company in February 2019, has been promoted from HR/Contracts Administrator.

The double promotion comes hot on the heels of the appointment of Donna Campo as Operations Director and Simon Morgan as Financial Director.

REIDsteel builds for future with new directors

Global structural steel firm John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has strengthened its top team with two new directors.

The Christchurch-based business has promoted Donna Campo to operations director and appointed Simon Morgan as financial director (pictured before social distancing was introduced).

Both will sit on REIDsteel’s board as the company looks to the future despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Managing director Simon Boyd said: “Donna and Simon are high calibre individuals who will help take REIDsteel to the next level.

“Donna has excelled in every role she has taken since starting at REIDsteel, while Simon joins the team with a highly impressive background in strategic finance.

REIDsteel resumes manufacturing in limited return to work

Structural steel company John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has welcomed workers back to its manufacturing facility in Christchurch.

The company was one of the first to shut down its manufacturing and construction site operations following the Government’s implementation of the coronavirus lockdown in March.

After an extensive review of its steel handling and manufacturing procedures, it has resumed production with strict operating protocols and safety measures in place.

With the re-start of factory operations after a five-week suspension, the company is in the vanguard of businesses nationwide throwing open their gates to support employees and the UK economy.

Managing director Simon Boyd said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our people, suppliers and contractors remains our first priority.

“We took the immediate decision to send all employees home on March 24 when the lockdown was first announced to stop any potential spread of the virus and allow us to assess ways to resume operations.

Structural steel company John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel), which was one of the first to shutdown its manufacturing and site operations following the Government’s implementation of the lockdown, has today announced a limited to return to work at its manufacturing facility in Christchurch.

The company is also working on plans that will allow its site teams (including subcontractors) to return to construction sites.

John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) remains committed to taking all reasonable steps to protect its employees, supply-chain partners, clients, third-party colleagues, their families, and members of the general public.

In line with current government directives our factory in Christchurch will be closed until further notice.

REIDsteel will continue to monitor and act upon the latest guidance from the government and Public Health England as it is issued.

The company is, however, able to continue to provide administrative, design and detailing work remotely.

During this period of uncertainty please use the mobile numbers displayed clearly on the home page of our website as our switchboard will be closed.

Structural steel company John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has today announced that it is temporarily suspending all operations with immediate effect.

The company is closing its manufacturing facility in Christchurch, Dorset, and all of its construction sites until further notice.

The decision comes in response to the escalating coronavirus pandemic. The company has also called for the Government to go even further in its national lockdown.

Managing director Simon Boyd said: “The welfare of our team, customers and suppliers is always our utmost priority.

“I cannot in all conscience sit working from home while sending people out to our manufacturing facility and to our construction sites. They should be at home with their families.

“This has not been an easy decision to make but these are unprecedented times. As a company we will do everything we can in our power to support our workforce, customers and suppliers through this difficult period.

“Over the last 100 years, the company has faced many difficult periods, including the Second World War, several recessions and the 2008 financial crisis and has always emerged stronger.

John Reid & Sons (REIDsteel) Ltd has played a key part in the development of a football club’s £1m new stand.

We provided steel design, fabrication and construction expertise for the project at Boreham Wood FC’s Meadow Park ground.

We designed and supplied a fully galvanised steel frame – including cladding, terracing and handrails – for the North Stand at the stadium in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

We worked on the project through main contractor Civils Contracting Ltd of Tonbridge and with HTP Architecture LLP Chartered RIBA Architects, based in Richmond, Surrey.

National League side Boreham Wood FC play their home games at the ground, which is shared with Premier League side Arsenal FC’s Women’s and youth teams.

Voters in Dorset have been urged to back Brexit at the ballot box to ensure a swift departure from the European Union.

Our managing director Simon Boyd said a strong showing for the Conservative Party was vital in the general election on December 12.

Simon has been campaigning for the past 30 years against bad EU directives and regulations that impact on British business and to retain British Standards, which are seen by many as the finest in the world.

He said: “While there are many important issues at stake in the forthcoming general election by far the most critical at this point in time is Brexit.

Our Commercial Director Tim Cook announced the winner live on stage during a gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Field International narrowly beat Precision Acoustics Ltd of Dorchester and marine electronics manufacturer Actisense to claim the honour in front of 680 guests.

Poole-based Field International is a global precision engineering company with expertise particularly in the aerospace sector.

REIDsteel confirms backing for British Steel

John Reid & Sons Ltd (REIDsteel) has pledged to make British Steel its primary long-term supplier.

We’ve made a policy decision to use the steelmaker’s products for our wide range of buildings and structures in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

The strengthening of ties is a further boost for British Steel as details of a takeover deal to secure the future of the firm are finalised.

REIDsteel managing director Simon Boyd, pictured above right,  confirmed that British Steel will be the company’s preferred supplier following a two-day visit to Scunthorpe and Teesside. The REIDsteel delegation was also shown steelmaking processes during the trip.
